Who is Alex Chavez

Born in Los Angeles, California and a graduate of Fine Arts from California State University Fullerton, I have been a figure painter for most of my career. I moved to Taos, New Mexico in 1997 where I currently work exclusively with oil paints on canvas, wood and aluminum. Throughout my journey as an artist, I have explored various mediums and techniques, but the richness and texture of oil paint continues to resonate deeply with my vision and artistic expression. The landscapes and vibrant culture of Taos serve as a constant source of inspiration, infusing my work with a sense of place and belonging, and encouraging me to delve deeper into the emotions that art can evoke.

As an artist, I work hard to create paintings that speak both to me and to others about the preciousness of life. My process is simply to draw the human figure and face with beauty, emotion, and expression. I strive, with every finished work, to breathe life into my subjects. These figures come alive on the canvas, each telling their own unique story, embedded with the subtleties of human experience. I believe that art improves the quality of life and I hope my art encourages the viewer to reflect on our ephemeral existence, prompting them to consider the deeper connections we share with one another and the fleeting moments that make life so miraculous.
